Hired

21 04 2012

Well that didn’t take long, after a two week long job search I finally got that job with the popular Facebook games group (I won’t say the name here, but not zynga).

Having finished my first week of work here I have to say that I am loving this job so far and hope to bring a lot of entertainment to the world through my contributions to it.

That said, aside from the various optimization that I’m still applying to the MLP game I have to say that it seems that not a lot of work is going to get done on that for quite a while. But that is not a problem as there are plenty of other pony games for people to partake in already such as these lovely people: http://www.dragon-mango.com/ponygame/

Site Updates

31 03 2012

A lot has changed since my last post and I thought I’d put a little update here.

I recently graduated from the University of Washington (B.S. in Software and Systems) and so I’ve suddenly gained a lot more time in my day, to counter this I am also now very involved in a quest for employment.

Speaking of the quest for employment, a very popular facebook games company (not Zynga) has taken interest in me, so if things go well and that deal wraps up I will make sure to do a post on that soon.

As far as the MLP platformer project is concerned, very little refactoring has occured but many many strides have been made as far as graphics optimization and networking go. They are not integrated yet but I plan on moving the engine away from Java2D and into Slick (which is an OpenGL interface) this may take some time but in the end it means that the performance will be vastly improved for anyone that chooses to use this engine for more graphically intense projects.

Refactoring

13 01 2012

I am about to go through a pretty intensive process of refactoring all of our code into a form that would meet all of the highest professional standards. It’s not actually difficult at all, its mainly just time consuming. The reason I’m doing this now is because when this project started it was a spur of the moment burst of ideas that had to be put into code before they could be lost, now that the basics are all present it is time to let professionalism catch up.

Once this refactoring is done this thing will have more than enough documentation that it would be extremely easy for a new coder to pick up if desired and start making source modifications.

Along with this update will come a slight redesign to the website’s layout with a few more tabs being added and additional room for information being reserved.

The fun has been doubled!

10 01 2012

*fluttershy yay for us*

We have purchased and mapped a big girl domain for this site, our new primary domain is:

http://melodiousgames.com/

Feels good to start of the year with a more respectable URL behind our name, not that we’re a serious team to begin with.

Still, someday when Melodious Games is a big name developer we’ll already have handled figuring out what domain we want.
